Your documents stay with you

When you sign with eSignR, only a hash value – the digital fingerprint of the document – is sent to the signature service. The document itself never leaves your system.

  • Independent of cloud providers: Your documents are not transferred to a cloud and are therefore not stored with providers abroad. More on the US CLOUD Act →
  • Three deployment options: on-premises, Swiss hosting certified to ISO 27001 or secure cloud
  • Trust service provider: Swisscom Trust Services

Instead of the document, only a digital fingerprint (hash value) is transferred – a unique checksum from which the content of the document cannot be reconstructed. We are happy to explain our technical approach in a personal conversation. Book a call →

Frequently asked questions about the qualified electronic signature

Is a qualified electronic signature legally binding?

Yes. Under Swiss law (Art. 14 para. 2bis CO in conjunction with the ZertES) and EU law (Art. 25(2) eIDAS), the qualified electronic signature (QES) has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature.

Is identification required for the qualified electronic signature?

Yes, once – regardless of the provider. The identification is valid for a maximum of three years or until your ID document expires. Go to identification →

What is the difference between a simple, advanced and qualified electronic signature?

The simple (SES) and the advanced electronic signature (AES) are not regulated in Swiss law. Only the qualified electronic signature (QES) is regulated by law and has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature. eSignR creates QES exclusively. More in the QES guide →

Are my documents uploaded to a cloud when I sign electronically with eSignR?

Not with eSignR. Only a hash value – the digital fingerprint of the document – is transmitted. The document itself stays in your system, which matters for legal professional privilege and professional secrecy, for example.

Can the qualified electronic signature be integrated into your own software?

Yes. With eSignR you trigger qualified signatures via REST API or command line (CLI) directly from your business application – including large numbers of documents in batch mode. Go to integration →

How can a qualified electronic signature be verified?

For documents under Swiss law, use the free signature validator of the Swiss Confederation at validator.ch. For the EU, the signature check of the Austrian RTR is one suitable option.
